Still on board the UDxGwen train! When these first launched I ran to the flagship store and picked up all of the UD exclusives and then when Ulta got the rest I went and snatched them up. I know I’m a little late getting these reviewed but they’ve gone on sale at both Ulta and Sephora recently so at least this is up in time for that!
UD | GWEN STEFANI Lipstick
These are $18 for 3.4g of product. The Revolution lipsticks are $22 for 2.8g so these Gwen lipsticks give more product for less money.
Here’s what UD says:
Gwen knows how to rock a bold lip. Luckily, she was game to get down and dirty with us to mix her perfect shades and ideal textures. She’s worn every lip color in the book, and these are her must-haves. The lineup: eight NEW shades (including two exclusives you can only find here)—from a bright red matte to a shimmering sheer nude and a creamy deep fuchsia. This collection includes our first-ever shade in a finish we’ve dubbed Mega Matte—a super-intense matte that lays down a lot of color in one coat. Every shade features our proprietary Pigment Infusion System™—for a super-creamy texture, rich payout and superior color dispersion.
We developed everything in the limited-edition UD | Gwen Stefani collection in close collaboration with Gwen. Wende and our product development team spent countless hours at Gwen’s house, talking makeup and working with her on every detail of the collection.
Gwen even directed the packaging design, which was inspired by her love of black-and-white graphic prints and antique gold accents. We created everything with Gwen, filling a void by developing all of the perfect shades she always wished she had in her collection. And with these products in your arsenal, you’ll have all the essentials to recreate her signature looks for yourself.
I am a packaging whore and these just screamed NEED to me! They’re so damn gorgeous to have on display. Seriously… scroll back up to that group image and just look at how stunning the whole set is together!
UD | GWEN STEFANI 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil
These are $20 for 1.2g. The 24/7 lip pencils are the same price and amount of product.
On the stage and in the limelight, Gwen’s lip color needs to last. This creamy, waterproof lip pencil (in a range of shades that match her limited-edition Lipsticks) lines and primes to help her lipstick stay put.
Our bestselling 24/7 formula applies smoothly, prevents feathering and lasts all day. Draw lines that define, then fill in your lips to help prime them for lipstick or gloss. Vitamin E, jojoba oil and cottonseed oil nourish the skin and ensure a smooth application.
Ex-Girlfriend lipstick is described as “sheer nude-rose with pink shimmer.” The liner is described as “nude-rose.” I bought this set but gifted it to a friend. The lipstick alone is very sheer. The liner definitely helps but the shade is still so nude it really doesn’t look much like I’m wearing lipstick at all. The lipstick is a very creamy texture with a lot of slip to it.
Firebird lipstick is described as “deep fuchsia cream.” The liner is described as “deep fuchsia pink.” This shade has a little bit of an almost duochrome blue sheen to it although it’s very subtle. This is one of my favorite shades in the line! The liner is a bit more creamy than the average UD liner and doesn’t have quite as much grip on the lipstick as I’m used to. The lipstick is incredibly creamy with a lot of slip.
714 lipstick is described as “bright red mega matte.” The liner is described as “classic red.” The lipstick is so matte I actually find it a little uncomfortable to apply. It drags and pulls as you apply it and I find it hard to get a clean line with it which is why the matching liner really comes in handy.
Rocksteady lipstick is described as “deep wine red cream.” The liner is described as “blood red.” I’m not really sure if this should be written “Rocksteady” like the lipstick or “Rock Steady” like the liner. Someone messed up proofreading the packaging design somewhere… This shade is a really classic rich deep red cream. The lipstick is creamy and slippery and because of the combination of a slippery formula with a dark shade it can be tricky to get it looking even. The liner really helps with this one to get you smooth and even pigmentation.
Spiderweb lipstick is described as “satin red cream.” There is no liner in this shade. This is a rich bright red. It is creamy and slippery like the rest of the creams and I don’t really get a satin feel from it. The pigmentation is great in this one and it doesn’t need a liner for the sake of even color but it’s so creamy that it might benefit from a liner just to lock it down and keep it from slipping around. The shade reminds me a little bit of Mrs. Mia Wallace.
Wonderland lipstick is described as “dark pink-red cream.” The liner is described as “dark pink-red.” This shade is another favorite of mine! It’s a great watermelony shade that I have a feeling is going to be a summer staple for me. I’m going to sound repetitive here but… the lipstick is super creamy and slippery but also very pigmented. You don’t need a liner for even pigmentation but the liner does help lock it down.
Phone Call lipstick is described as “sheer bright pink.” The liner is described as “bright pink.” This shade (both the lipstick and the liner) is exclusive to UD’s website and Flagship store. Like all the lipsticks this one is slippery and the liner helps keep it in place, but it’s also sheer and the liner helps amp up the color payoff. Lipstick and liner together make a pretty Barbie pink that’s great for spring.
Plaid lipstick is described as “sheer deep berry.” There is no liner in this shade. This shade is exclusive to UD’s website and Flagship store. This shade to me isn’t all that “berry.” It’s kind of a mix between Wonderland and Phone Call for me. It’s more sheer than most of the non-sheer creams but it’s not as sheer as Ex-Girlfriend or Phone Call and you can build it up pretty well. A liner does help keep it in place.
The Wrap Up
With the exception of the super matte 714, all of the lipsticks are so creamy that they’re incredibly slippery and might move around on folks who have issues with lipsticks migrating and feathering. I personally don’t have a big problem with feathering, but I figure I should mention it just in case. These are not long wearing lipsticks but the liners do help with longevity.
