I picked up the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks over the holidays and meant to post swatches sooner but didn’t get around to it. I purchased Androgyny, Doll Parts, and Hoe Hoe Hoe for myself and purchased the full 5 lipstick set for a friend as a gift who was kind enough to let me swatch Druglord and Mistletoe for you guys. While I was at it swatching those two he let me swatch Jawbreaker and Blue Velvet for you as well!
The Holiday set included 5 shades which were all Limited Edition at the time in packaging with white tops and rose gold printing which was so gorgeous! Since the holidays, 2 of the shades Androgyny and Doll Parts have been made permanent and re-released in the standard pink packaging.
Hoe, Hoe, Hoe – “The fierce red is gorgeous, deep toned and has hints of metallic red and purple throughout.” This is a gorgeous shade! It’s the first sparkly shade the line has released and was a bit of an experiment. You’re supposedly able to gently pat and rub at the lipstick after it’s dried to get the sparkle to come out more. Makes sense in theory as it would remove the lipstick pigment from the top of the sparkles so you can see them more. However it never quite dries completely on me so while rubbing helps a little bit, it doesn’t help as much as I’d like. I love the way this looks but because it never fully dries on me it does transfer a little for me.
Androgyny – “Be warned: this shade might be your new obsession 😉 Sultry, plum mauve, matte and extremely addicting.” This shade was such a cult hit that it was recently brought back as a permanent shade. I did buy two during the initial release because I wanted to make sure I had a backup since it was LE at the time. It actually looks darker on me in person than this swatch photo makes it out to be. It’s a very dark mauve on me and while I absolutely love it, it’s not the most wearable work shade for me.
Doll Parts – “This soft cool toned pink looks like Lindsay Lohan’s life in the movie Mean Girls. ” Doll Parts was also brought back into the main collection because of popular demand. I’m not sure if it’s had its first restock as a permanent shade but if not it should be any day now. I also bought two of this one during the holiday launch. I absolutely love it!
Drug Lord – “This matte white liquid lipstick is the first of it’s kind! She’s very versatile. This product can be used as a mixing medium to lighten other liquid lip shades, can be used as liquid eyeliner (YES, it’s eye safe!), lip art, ombré’s or can be worn by itself.” I know this swatch looks horrible! This really isn’t the most wearable shade on its own obviously but it’s great as a mixing color. I did not purchase it for myself but bought it for a friend who was kind enough to let me swatch it for you. I love that it’s eye safe as I imagine it would make an awesome eye liner!
Mistletoe – “A true Christmas tree green matte! The perfect shade to stand out this holiday season.” Please excuse the white case around the edge of this swatch. I swatched it right after Drug Lord and obviously didn’t remove it well enough. I did not purchase this shade for myself but bought it for a friend who was kind enough to let me swatch it for you. This shade is the perfect holiday green! It’s obviously not a shade that most folks would wear every day but I like the idea of it for special occasions. It applied a little more patchy than the 3 more mainstream colors in the set but was waaaaay better in application than Drug Lord. With a little work it is fully opaque.
I didn’t purchase these two myself but a friend let me swatch them for you guys.
Jawbreaker – “This neon pastel blue is like bubble gum soda on your lips! Bold. Vibrant. Exciting.” This is a really cool bright pastel blue. It’s so pastel it looks a little washed out on my face but I’m still super attracted to it! My lip lines are really exaggerated in this swatch but I don’t think it’s the fault of this shade as I’d already lip swatched 5 other liquid lipsticks before this one and they were getting a little dry and odd feeling.
Blue Velvet – ““She wore blue velvet….” – Inspired by Bobby Vinton’s classic hit song, this vibrant royal blue is the perfect lipstick to make a statement.” This is a really striking blue!
Aside from Hoe, Hoe, Hoe, all of these shades dried down fully like my other Velour Liquid Lipsticks and were mostly transfer proof after drying. All 3 shades that I own (Androgyny, Doll Parts, and Hoe, Hoe, Hoe) I’ve worn all day and found them fairly comfortable and not drying. The 5 shades I don’t own that my friend let me swatch I kept on for about 15 minutes each and found them comfortable for that time.
