"Beachy & Bright" curated box.

“Beachy & Bright” curated box.

Birchbox is $10 for about 5 beauty or lifestyle products, usually deluxe samples but sometimes you get a full sized product. Most months you can choose between a guest editor curated box or pick one of your samples from 3-4 sample choices and the rest of the box will be based on your ratings and preferences. You can subscribe to Birchbox here or check out my previous Birchbox reviews here.

July’s Birchbox theme was Beachy & Bright. What they had to say:

Sunshine. Ice cream. Naps by the pool. We love almost *everything* about July. But our favorite part is summer beauty: bold colors, glowing skin. That’s why our editors have put together a box of goodies they’re loving for the season. With a bright pink lip shade, a tousled waves spray, and more, this collection is full of products perfect for a weekend at the shore – or for achieving that back-from-the-beach look wherever you are.

For July I opted for the curated box. It looked like it would be a full set of hits for me and it was pretty darn close.

JUARA Radiance Enzyme Scrub – I love scrubs and pretty much anything that offers to brighten my skin and leave it glowy. Definitely looking forward to giving this a try! The full size is $38 for 2.5 oz so this 0.27 oz sample is worth about $4.10.

Gentle exfoliator that minimizes imperfections and leaves skin glowingly smooth.

Oribe Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray – I have to admit that I’ve never gotten on the beach wave spray bandwagon before despite being a native Californian. I think I’ve always been worried about salt sprays drying out my hair. This one claims to hydrate though so I’m definitely on board to give it a shot! In fact I think I’ll try spritzing my hair with it tonight and braid it? Is that how these work lol? The full size is $39 for 8.5 oz (ouch! pricey!) so this 1 oz sample is worth around $4.59.

This spritz delivers beachy, texturized waves – plus, it hydrates summer-dry hair and boosts shine.

Supergoop! Anti-Aging City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30 – I am ghostly pale and all about trying to find new ways to add more SPF to my day. When I was younger I thought a little bit of SPF in my foundation was enough but as I’m getting older I really want to up my SPF game and this product is the one that caught my eye about the curated box. I’ve tried this twice now (I know, that’s a first! Usually I haven’t tried things yet when I write up these reviews) and I really liked it. I was worried it would mess with my makeup’s staying power but it didn’t seem to at all. The full size is $42 for 1.6 oz which is astoundingly expensive so this 10 ml sample (about 0.338 oz) is worth roughly $8.88. I’ll definitely need to finish up this sample before I decide if I’m willing to shell out that much for such a small full size or if I will keep looking for a similar but more budget friendly product.

This antiaging serum blocks UV rays while hydrating skin and preventing future sun damage.

stila stay all day liquid lipstick in bella – I’ve been eyeing these stila liquid lipsticks in my Ulta and Sephora for awhile so I was really happy to get this one in this box. It’s a super thick formula… I mean surprisingly thick! The smell is a little funky almost like they were aiming for a sweet desserty scent but it’s got a touch of chemical to it. Really weird. I haven’t had a chance to wear it yet and see how it wears but I look forward to trying it out! The full sizes are $24 for 0.10 oz which is really expensive compared to other brands (KvD is $20 for 0.22 oz). This 0.05 oz sample is worth $12. Based on the swatch and the available colors I was totally ready to buy this if it wore well but now that I’ve done the cost breakdown I’m much less likely to do so.

This creamy, matte formula glides on like a gloss yet lasts (and lasts and lasts) like a stain.

theBalm cosmetics Balm Desert Bronzer/Blush – This is definitely not something I can get away with wearing as a bronzer or blush. It’s just way too warm toned for my skin and is going to make me look like a shimmery oompa loompa. That being said it might make a good eyeshadow so while I won’t be buying the full size I think I’ll still get good use out of this little sample. The full size is $21 for 0.225 oz so this 0.028 oz little guy is worth about $2.61.

A blush and bronzer in one, this velvety powder gives a long-wearing, fresh-from-the-beach glow.

This box has a monetary value of $32.18 which is right around my average box value. I think Birchbox executed the theme really well! Usually the curated boxes only have one or two products I’m interested in but with this one I’ll get good use out of every item here so this box really was a great hit for me.
