Before I get back to my streak of subscription box reviews let’s take a look at swatches of a few of the Nyx Wicked Lippies! Some time ago I picked up 3 of the Wicked Lippies from my local Ulta. As much as I wanted to snag the rest, these were the 3 that I thought I’d get the most use out of. Unfortunately I do occasionally have to be reasonable and not buy half a dozen lipsticks that I’ll only wear once every few months. They’re $6 on the Nyx site and $5.99 at Ulta but Ulta frequently runs sales on Nyx products so if you’re looking to get them your best bet is to wait for an Ulta BOGO promo (usually BOGO 50%).

In all of the arm swatches below the left side is one swipe and the right side is built up to full opacity. The lip swatches are built up to a reasonable opacity over my naked lips with no liner.

Power is described by Nyx as “deep metallic rose with silver shimmer.” This is my favorite of the three. It’s one of the more normal shades in the line but the silver sheen gives it a fun twist while still being fairly wearable for day to day. Because it’s a nice rose shade and is closer to my natural lip color than the other two, there’s less of a problem with my natural lip color showing through though it can apply a bit streaky if you’re not careful while building it up. It applies more smoothly over a liner.

Cold Hearted is a “deep metallic granite with silver shimmer.” I’d call it more of a gunmetal with a silver sheen to it. I mostly got this to mix with my other lipsticks to darken and deepen them up rather than to wear it alone. You can see my natural lip color through this one a little bit but I don’t find it to be as prone to applying streaky as Power is. It definitely benefits from a liner (even a clear one) underneath though!

Stone Cold is a “metallic silver” which I find in practice to be more of a white with a silver sheen. Like Cold Hearted I got this to mix with other shades to lighten the tone and custom blend. Understandably it’s the least opaque of the three and is a little patchy over my naked lips. A liner is a must with this one.

All three of these have a fair amount of slip to them and aren’t very long wearing on me. Without a liner underneath they start to wear after about an hour with no eating or drinking and transfer immediately if I do drink anything. With a liner they go on more opaquely in fewer coats and do last longer although they’re still nowhere near long lasting or transfer proof. To be fair they’re not advertised as long wearing so they don’t make any promises. This line is designed to be shocking and fun. The line is however touted as richly pigmented and to be honest all three require at least 3 coats to be built up properly. I’ll definitely get some use out of these but I find their Creamy Round Lipsticks to be a better formula.
