Life Updates – Vacations, Gym Challenges, and the Mud Run!

Now that I’m done with my May subscription reviews I feel like I can take a second and post something a little different before I dive into June’s subscriptions and the huge pile of non-subscription products and swatches I’ve got up my sleeves. One of the reasons I’m so behind is that almost as soon as my first bootcamp challenge wrapped up I went on vacation and then came back and started challenge #2.

Vacation was absolutely amazing! My mom and most of her family are on the other side of the country and I hadn’t been back there to see them in a year and a half so I decided to fly out for Mother’s Day to surprise my mom and nana.

They were both surprised! It was wonderful to be able to give them such a unique Mother’s Day gift and to spend time with them again after so long apart. I got to see my aunts and uncle, my cousins, their kids, and spent 2 weeks poking my baby brother non-stop to make up for not being able to harass him for so long. While I didn’t get anything posted I did bring a pretty big pile of makeup needing to be swatched and I swatched, and swatched, and swatched on days my mom was at work. I’ve got a pile of photos to edit but it should help speed up my non-subscription review backlog.

The second I came back I jumped into bootcamp challenge #2 and was on the clock to lose another 20 pounds. I really love this gym! I’d missed my trainers and fellow campers while I was on vacation! I’d never had fun exercising before I found this place and it’s changed my point of view and lifestyle in so many ways! While on the challenge we got both training, a special meal plan and nutritional counseling, and an amazing support group to work together to get in shape.

Unfortunately I did not lose the 20 this time around. I really struggled this time with the scale. The inches still came off and I lost another dress size but I didn’t make the weight goal. Honestly I’m ok with it though! I gave it 110% going to multiple training sessions, following the meal plan to a T, getting in extra cardio, and even though I didn’t cross the finish line on time I have no complaints. I’ll still make the goal, it’s just going to take a little longer than planned. For a person with an indecisive thyroid an insulin resistance who’s never been able to lose more than 5 lbs before or keep it off it was still a huge victory!

I also ran my first 5k mud run about halfway through the second challenge. I had an absolute blast! I was dirty, disgusting, and really sore by the end but I’m really proud of myself for finishing. There’s no way I could have made it through before I started this fitness journey and I look forward to seeing how I do next year after another year’s progress!

I’m now down 30 lbs from where I was when I started my first challenge and 60 down from my highest weight which is amazing progress! The work isn’t over though. Now comes the hardest part – continuing the struggle on my own and not letting myself fall back into my old habits. I can do it though!

During this second challenge I was kicked into such high gear that I had hardly any waking time that wasn’t at work or working out so I got behind on pretty much everything else in my life. My second challenge has been over for 2 weeks now and I’m finally starting to catch my breath and work on catching up in the areas of my life that have lagged behind. Now I’m establishing a more healthy balance between ALL the aspects of my life. It’s not very healthy to obsess over fitness to the exclusion of everything else in your life either so I’m happy to be finding balance. This week I got all of May’s subscription reviews up and I’m hoping to be done with June by the end of the weekend.

Obstacles in your path

I’m done being my own obstacle! I’m getting in shape, I’m getting caught up on blog stuff, I’m catching up with my friends, and forging forward with a healthy and balanced life!
