Earlier this month I had the honor of being invited to the Urban Decay & Vogue Naked Smoky Launch Party held at the UD Flagship Store in Newport Beach. I was supposed to be in San Diego for Comic Con from Wednesday through Sunday but you can’t pass up an invite like this! So I drove to SDCC Wednesday afternoon then came back up to Newport Thursday afternoon and turned back around after the party and headed back to SDCC. Let me tell you it was totally worth it!
It’s no secret that I’m an Urban Decay junkie. There are very few UD products I dislike and my mainstream brand makeup collection is heavily weighted in UD’s favor. I also spend an unreasonable amount of time at the Flagship store. You might shop somewhere a little too much if all the makeup artists know you by name, by Instagram, and remember what you hauled last. It’s an addiction and I’m not even ashamed! It was really nice to be able to hang out with the UD artists in a different atmosphere.
I even snuck air kisses with Ashmere! This woman (and her makeup) gives me liiiiife! I was elated to have the chance to meet more people associated with the brand. I got to meet so many people and discuss what it’s like to work for Urban Decay and in the cosmetics industry. It never ceases to amaze me how active UD is in giving back whether it be through formal charitable partnerships or employees heading to the beach together to pick up trash. They truly care about their community.
My date for the evening was my friend Daniel whom I’ve known since we were teenagers in a teeny tiny mountain town. He’s been beating face beautifully for far longer than I’ve been this interested in cosmetics and recently moved down to Orange County so of course I couldn’t think of anyone better to bring with me!
People kept stopping us to comment on his makeup and lashes. Those babies were stacked 10 high and I’m pretty sure they could’ve flown away on their own; they were freaking fabulous! He did my makeup for the night, too and I had a great time letting him work his magic on my face.
They had hors d’oeuvres and drinks with a custom drink named after one of the shadows in the palette. The music was amazing and really gave the party life! Of course we were there for a reason though and the star of the party was the Naked Smoky palette…
You know I had to buy it… this baby had to come home with me! It wouldn’t let me leave without it! I wore it the very next day and it’s been in my rotation quite a bit ever since. I know I need to do a full review of it and I promise I will soon! You can see a few looks I’ve created with it so far though here, here, and here.
I was absolutely elated to get the chance to attend this event and to be able to meet all of the amazing folks behind Urban Decay!
