Birchbox May 2015

Birchbox is $10 for about 5 beauty or lifestyle products, usually deluxe samples but sometimes you get a full sized product. Most months you can choose between a guest editor curated box or pick one of your samples from 3-4 sample choices and the rest of the box will be based on your ratings and preferences. You can subscribe to Birchbox here or check out my previous Birchbox reviews here.

May’s Birchbox was a collab with Emily from cupcakes + cashmere. What she had to say:

Beauty products have a way of instantly transforming my mood, whether I’m taking a bubble bath at the end of a long day or brightening up my look with an unapologetically bold lipstick. I love that simple products can have such a profound impact, which is why I’m thrilled to be curating the May Birchbox. My second book, Cupcakes and Cashmere at Home, also comes out this month and follows the same motto as my blog: ‘Elevate Everyday Life.’ My book is filled with entertaining ideas and home decor tricks that are aspirational yet attainable. I hope you enjoy my Birchbox picks and find plenty of applicable tips to help elevate your everyday life!

xx Emily

This month I was interested in the curated box but did not do my sample choice in time to get it. Sadness. Instead I opted for the Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel because I can always use another peel!

Birchbox May 2015 Info Card

Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional – I keep hearing amazing things about The POREfessional and I have a couple samples kicking around at this point so I should probably get around to trying it out! This one rated “Emily’s All-Time Fave”. The full size is $31 for 0.75 US fl. oz so this 0.1 oz sample is worth $4.13.

WHAT: This sheer, oil-free balm minimizes pores, smooths skin, and works with all skin tones.

HOW: Apply a thin layer under makeup, or dab a pea-sized amount over makeup for touch-ups.

Macadamia Professional Nourishing Moisture Oil Treatment – My hair is dry as the Sahara at the moment so I’m totally excited to give this oil treatment a try! This 1 oz travel size is sold for $13.95.

WHAT: Loaded with antioxidants, this lightweight formula hydrates hair and boosts shine.

HOW: Rub a few drops between your palms. Smooth over midlengths to ends of damp or dry hair.

Mally Evercolor Waterproof Automatic Eyeliner in Plum – I’ve heard great things about Mally beauty and I’ve liked the lip products I’ve tried so far but I’ve never tried their eye products. I have a ton of purple eyeliners but this seems to be a different enough shade from what I’ve got in other brands so we’ll give it a try! This is 0.01 oz which I think is full sized and valued at $18.

WHAT: This pencil delivers vivid, smudge-proof color – and never needs sharpening.

HOW: Glide along lash line. Twist bottom of pencil to reveal more pigment.

Naobay Oxygenating Cream Moisturizer – I have to admit when I saw the Naobay tube I was like “Ugh, not another hand lotion…” but I was pleasantly surprised to find moisturizer! Always thrilled to try new moisturizers on my horribly combination skin. The full size is $36 for 1.7 fl oz so this 0.67 fl oz sample is worth about $14.19.

WHAT: Made with avocado and olive oils, this 98% natural cream nourishes and hydrates skin.

HOW: Smooth generously onto clean face and neck morning and night.

Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel – This was my sample choice for the month. It wasn’t my favorite of the options but it’s what was left over and I’m always happy to try a new peel so… let’s go for it! The full size is $48 for 1.7 fl oz so this 0.17 fl oz sample is worth $4.80.

WHAT: This acid-free peel gently exfoliates for instantly softer, smoother, brighter skin.

HOW: Apply to clean face and massage to slough off dull, dry skin. Rinse away.

I feel like this is the best box I’ve gotten in a few months. I’ll use everything in it and the value is about $55.07 which I think is a tie for the highest monetary value of all the boxes I’ve gotten!
