Ipsy “Fresh Start” January 2015

It’s time for a “Fresh Start” with Ipsy’s January glam bag. This month’s theme is about getting a clean start for all the possibilities that wait for us in the year ahead.

Ipsy glam bags are $10/month and come with 5 beauty products ranging from samples to full size all packed in a new makeup bag each month. Each subscriber gets a different selection of the month’s products based on a beauty preferences quiz and ratings from items in past bags so items I show here may vary from items received by others.

This month I received 1 full size item and 4 samples:

Eco-Beauty good day. day moisturizer – My skin has been rather dry this winter so I’m happy to try out a new moisturizer, especially one that’s free of parabens, sulfates, dyes and other less desirable ingredients. The packaging boasts some big claims so here’s hoping this works well for me! The full size is $40 for 1.7 oz on the Eco-Beauty site so this 0.5 oz sample is worth about $11.76. Ipsy also has a discount code for 30% off any purchase at lafreshgroup.com with code IPSYJAN15. Code is good through 2/28/15 and is valid in the US only.

Bye-bye daily worries that make my skin dry and tired. Hello fresh, confident looking me! This highly natural La Fresh Eco-Beauty Good Day. Day Cream provides ample hydration and helps to bring back fresher and happier skin appearance. Rescues you from fine wrinkles on the face. Made with collagen-producing peptides, super-hydrating hyaluronic acid, natural cucumber, aloe, antioxidant panthenol (vitamin B), vitamin C & E and an anti-aging botanical complex including maqui berry, licorice root, ginkgo biloba leaf, grape seed & hickory bark.

(MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito Lip Balm – I have lip balms coming out my ears so I probably won’t use this myself. This product has pretty good reviews so I might include it in a gift package for my mom or something though. It’s kind of weird for a lip balm in a subscription box to be a sample, but this one is. The full size is $12 for 0.35 oz so this 0.2 oz sample is worth about $6.86. Ipsy has a 15% off discount code for the (MALIN+GOETZ) site. Use code IPSY15, valid through 2/28/15 in the US only.

Our Mojito Lip Balm is as soothing to the lips as it is to the senses.  Flavored with (MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito, our lip balm is scientifically blended to restore and replenish.  Our hydrating lip gel easily integrates for daily maintenance, prevention and treatment of dry, irritated lips.

Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow in Treasure – Subscribers who got this got one of 2 colors, Treasure which is a shimmery brown or Ethereal which is an off white. Treasure looks like a pretty color in the pan, but I need another brown eyeshadow like I need a hole in the head. I’m not sure if I’m going to keep it or trade it. Pacifica is a vegan and cruelty-free brand this shadow is free of parabens so we’ll see. I might just use it after all. As far as I can tell Pacifica eye shadows are not sold in singles anywhere and I can’t find details on product volume on any of the multi-shadow or palette listings I’ve looked at so I’m going to estimate this as being worth around $4 as a trio goes for $14 on the Pacifica site and quads go for $14 through Pacifica and $12 through Target. Get 20% off the Pacifica site with code NewBeauty, valid until 2/28/15 in the US only.

An incredibly innovative formula that pushes natural makeup and mineral color to new bounds. Rich, lasting, creaseless eye shadows are infused with coconut water for a velvety, cream-like finish.

Manna Kadar Cosmetics Sheer Glo – I was very intrigued by this product and rushed to swatch some on the back of my hand, but there’s absolutely zero pigmentation to it on my skin. There’s a tiny bit of a rose-goldish shimmer, but it’s barely noticeable at all. I’d take a swatch photo except I literally can’t tell that I put any product on. Worn alone, this might work better on someone with darker skin or with someone whose undertones aren’t as pink as mine. It’s also suggested to mix it with your foundation, but given that I go for full coverage foundations they’d probably obscure all of the shimmer in this. I’ll keep it around to try on my next tinted moisturizer day but those are few and far between. Sheer Glo is $29 for 1 oz so this 0.27 oz sample is worth about $7.83. Ipsy has a discount code for the Manna Kadar site. Use code ipsy20 at checkout for 20% off, valid through 2/28/15. Unlike most of the other offers Ipsy doesn’t say this is restricted to US customers only.

Sheer Glo is an incandescent liquid that lights up skin with all over radiance. Mix with foundation or wear alone to provide a luminous glow for all skin types. An especially amazing product for mature or dry skin. Sheer Glo provides a youthful glow and dewy finish. Use on face and/or body and get glowing.

Hikari Cosmetics Mechanical Eye Liner in Storm – All subscribers who received this got the same shade, Storm, which is described as a Slate Gray, though I wouldn’t have known that from looking at the packaging without reading the fine print on Ipsy. The box is black, the tube is black, there isn’t even gray on the back end of the tube so I was going to put this in the swap pile (definitely don’t need more black eye liner) but now I just might keep it. I can’t tell if this is full sized or not as I can’t find sizing info for their full size. I’m going to assume it is, in which case it’s got a $13 value. Ipsy’s discount code for Hikari is HIKARI30 and will get you 30% off at the Hikari site through 2/28/15 for US customers only.

My January bag has a monetary value of about $43.45 not counting whatever the makeup bag’s value is. It’s one of the highest value bags I’ve ever gotten but unfortunately most of my products this month were a strike-out for me. Nothing wrong with the products themselves, just not right for me personally. Hopefully my product reviews will help dial in my bag for future months.

You can check out my past Ipsy reviews here or subscribe to Ipsy here! They do have a waitlist but every now and then they have a skip the waitlist thing where it takes just a few easy steps to skip the queue and start getting your bag.
