January’s “Let’s Do This!” themed Birchbox arrived last week and I was in such a get it done mode I didn’t have time to post the review! I love the bright party-like coloring. It’s an energizing and happy looking box!

My box this month came with 7 samples (6 if you count the shampoo/conditioner set as 1 which I’m kind of inclined to do). Birchbox always gives you a card listing the products in your box. The shampoo and conditioner are listed with the Davines oil as a bonus.

Davines OI / Oil Absolute Beautifying Potion – This is described as a “lightweight, antioxidant-rich serum that tames frizz, boosts shine, and prevents breakage.” I’m always happy to try out a new serum and this is an incredibly generous sample; it’ll last me for months! There is a very faint perfumy soap like smell to it but it’s not strong enough to bother me. The full size is $41 for about 4.5 oz. This 1.69 oz size sells for $20 on the Davines website.

Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45+ – “A cult favorite, this all-in-one provides light coverage, antiaging benefits, and mega SPF.” I haven’t had any luck with the Dr. Jart+ primers but I have high hopes for this beauty balm as adding SPF 45 to my daily routine would be pretty awesome. There isn’t much smell to it which is nice. The 1.5 oz full size retails for $39 so this 0.2 oz sample is worth about $5.20

Harvey Prince Sincerely – Birchbox seems to heavily promote the Harvey Prince scent line. I’ve gotten 3 or 4 different HP fragrances so far. This one’s described as a, “sweetly spicy scent with Indonesian clove bud, Indian tuberose, and Japanese orange flower.” It’s a little strong for me sprayed on a card so I’m really not sure how it’ll wear. The longer I sit here next to the card while I finish writing up this review the more I dislike the scent. It’s overpowering and a little old-ladyish to me. The full size is $55 for 50 ml so this 1.5 ml sample is worth roughly $1.65.

NAOBAY Body Radiance Lotion – “This Spanish favorite uses olive oil and avocado to naturally hydrate and soften skin.” I’ve received this from Birchbox before so I’ll probably list this one for swap. If someone wants it great and if I use up my current hand lotion at work I’ll use this then. The full size is $18 for 250 ml so this 30 ml sample is worth $2.16.

theBalm Stainiac in beauty queen – This is a “best-selling stain that gives cheeks and lips a sheer, rosy tint.” I’m not that big on lip stains but the color intrigues me so I’ll give this one a shot. There isn’t any smell to it which is nice. The full size is $17 for 0.3 oz so this 0.04 oz sample is worth $2.27.

Davines OI / Absolute Beautifying Shampoo and Conditioner (bonus samples) – I’m not big on foil packets in subscription boxes but since these were bonus samples and not part of the main 5 I don’t mind. Having color treated hair I’m a little put off by “for all hair types” kinds of products. The shampoo is paraben and sulfate free but the conditioner is only paraben free and contains silicones so I’m not entirely sure if I’ll use these or not yet. The shampoo retails for $26 and the conditioner for $32. The combined value of these sample packets is $2.65. The great thing here is that Birchbox is counting these two packets for reviews so there’s an extra 20 Birchbox points in this box!

At $33.93 this is a higher value Birchbox but it didn’t knock it out of the park for me. The Davines oil is the stand out, but the rest is pretty meh.
