Sample Review Sunday

Self-Purchased

Time to review the samples I’ve tried this week! I’m really bad at letting samples sit around for ages so maybe Sample Review Sunday will help motivate me to use them a little more diligently.

Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation in Light 44 (Sephora)

This foundation is supposed to be full coverage and stay on through armageddon so I really wanted to give it a try. The Sephora associate and I were a little worried that this shade might be too orangey on my ghostly visage so she gave me a sample to try at home. I really like it. It’s not orange at all. It might actually be a little light for me in the Summer now since I’m still rocking a bit of extra color from an early Summer burn but it’ll be a good shade for me come Winter. It smells odd (almost odd enough to put me off it entirely) and isn’t quite perfect coverage, but it covers enough, has a nice finish, and feels good on my skin. The sample contained enough for 3-4 applications so I’ll have to put it through a full day of wear before I decide to purchase.

Nude Skincare Miracle Mask (Sephora)

The associate recommended this mask to help me get over the last of my breakout and help prevent future breakouts. The little sample is about 2 uses for me. I really like it! It helped bring some of the baby blemishes from under the surface to the top so I could take care of them and really helped with the clogged pores on my nose. I’ve purchased a few other masks lately so we’ll see how I do with those but I’d definitely consider getting this one in the future when my stock of mask products has depleted a bit.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Auburn (Sephora)

I’m always on the search for a better brow product and I’ve heard nothing but good things about Anastasia products. Every time I’m in a Sephora or Ulta I swatch her Auburn products and every time they swatch brown on me. This visit the store associate gave me a sample of the Auburn Dipbrow to take home and actually use on myself. I really loved the application and the overall effect however it’s still way too brown. I don’t need something to match my hair exactly but I do need something that’s at least in the right region. I’d buy it in a heartbeat if it was more red but for now I’ll have to stick to powdering my brows in with eyeshadow.

Dr. Jart+ Pore Minimalist Mask (Birchbox)

This mask felt great while it was on and it definitely helped minimize my smaller pores but I don’t feel like it did much for my larger ones. If I ever sample another I’ll probably use some pore strips first on my nose and chin where my biggest pores are to make sure they’re extra clear. If I got another sample I’d definitely use it but I wouldn’t buy it on my own.

H2O+ Night Oasis Oxygenating Rejuvenator (Sample Society)

I got 1 of these in each of the 2 Sample Society Mystery Boxes I got and I’m so glad I did! I’ve been through 1 sample bottle so far and have really liked it so I’m happy to be able to keep using it awhile longer before I invest. It’s on the expensive side but the sample bottle lasted me close to 2 weeks of once daily application so the full size would last me about 3 months I think.

Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser (Ipsy)

I love the way this cleanser smells! It’s like strawberry champagne on my skin. It cleans fairly well but leaves my skin feeling a bit dry and tight afterwards. I’m not sure if that’s legitimate dryness or if I’m just so used to cleansers leaving a bit of residue left on my skin that my post-wash dryness meter is off. I’ll definitely be using the whole sample but not sure yet if I’d buy it separately.

Hada Labo Tokyo Skin Plumping Gel Cream (Ulta Online Sample)

I wish this had been a slightly larger sample. I enjoyed the 1 use I got out of it but didn’t that wasn’t really enough to tell if it’s something I’d want to invest in purchasing full size. I’m already pretty plump in the face but this felt nice and moisturizing.

Ahava Dead Sea Osmoter Eye Concentrate (Ulta Online Sample)

Amazingly this tiny packet lasted me almost 3 weeks of twice daily use so the full size would probably last me 5 months. I like the way it feels on my skin and it’s definitely moisturizing but I don’t feel like it’s doing as much for my dark circles as I’d hoped.

Garnier Clean+ Nourishing Cleansing Oil (?)

I don’t remember where I got this sample from. It might have been in a JustFab order I placed but I’m not 100% sure. I really loved this for dissolving my makeup but I have really oily skin and it’s too oily for me to use without washing it off with a regular cleanser.
